Scandium oxide (Sc2O3)
Scandium oxide is a white, odourless powder with a very high melting point. It is an important raw material for the production of aluminium-scandium alloy.
Treibacher scandium oxide is generally used as an alloying component for aluminium, causing the aluminium to form smaller, more stable crystals. Such alloys are mainly used in special applications, such as aircraft components that are subjected to very high loads.
Another application is metal halide lamps, since scandium oxide gives the lamps particularly favourable light characteristics.
In addition, scandium oxide is also used for the production of laser crystals.
