Zirconium oxide (ZrO2)
Zirconium oxide (ZrO2)
Zirconium(IV) oxide (ZrO2) is a white powder that is non-flammable and virtually insoluble in water. Zirconium oxide is used in many ceramic applications.
Zirconium(IV) oxide (ZrO2), often referred to as zirconium dioxide or zirconium oxide, is an inorganic material that occurs in three different crystal modifications (monoclinic, tetragonal and cubic) and is used primarily for advanced ceramics (dental and hip joint endoprostheses) and for the production of artificial gemstones. Zirconium oxide is very resistant to chemical, thermal and mechanical influences and is only attacked by very strong acids.
Zirconium oxide is also used in the production of paints, coatings and printing inks. The material thus improves the scratch resistance of coatings (topcoats) for the automotive industry.
